Yankee Flipper Bird Feeder
The Droll Yankees Yankee Flipper is a motorized bird feeder that allows birds to eat while preventing squirrels from getting a meal. When a squirrel hops onto the feeder's perch ring, the ring begins spinning, taking the squirrel for a whirl before it loses its grip.
The 17-inch seed tube holds 5 pounds of birdseed for fewer refills, and it has four seed ports for accommodating multiple birds. The tube feeder hangs by its stainless steel looped wire that reduces motion to prevent seed spill.
Seed Recommendations
A variety of birds use the Yankee Flipper, including cardinals, chickadees, finches, flickers, goldfinches, grackles, grosbeaks, jays, juncos, kinglets, nuthatches, redpolls, siskins, sparrows, starlings, titmice, towhees, woodpeckers, and wrens. The Flipper works with mixed seed, peanut chunks, safflower seed, sunflower kernels, and cracked corn, though it works best with sunflower seeds, a favorite of almost every backyard feeder bird.
Now, for the fun stuff:
The birdfeeder features an encased motor and rechargeable (and replaceable) batteries. When you receive the feeder, simply charge the batteries overnight, hang the feeder from its looped bail wire, and prepare to be amazed (and entertained!). The motor is connected to the weight activated perch ring--birds will not set it off, even larger species like woodpeckers and cardinals. But the minute a squirrel hops onto the perch, the motor is triggered and the feeder begins spinning, taking the squirrel for a whirl before it loses its grip and is thrown (gently) from the perch. It's a humanitarian way to deal with persistent squirrels--there are no shocks or poisons to hurt them, simply a wild ride that they won't be inclined to repeat. Birds are free to eat without disruption, and your family will get a kick out of watching squirrels go for their rides. There's a lifetime warranty on the feeder body and a one-year warranty on the motor and battery charger. --Ariel Meadow Stallings
Make a World of Difference
The act of hanging a bird feeder and keeping it clean and full can improve the chances that birds and their offspring will survive. Homes with bird feeders attract more birds and contribute to sustaining the local ecosystem. By building quality feeders and offering feeder replacement parts, Droll Yankees strives to keep its feeders in yard and out of landfills.
